    Yesterday, September 6, 2021, RuneLite HD would have been released. The code had been reviewed and bugs had been fixed - it was ready to go. You would have been playing with it right now. Yet, at the eleventh hour, Jagex contacted me asking me to take it down in light of the reveal that they have a similarly-themed graphical improvement project that is "relatively early in the exploration stages".

    I offered a compromise of removing my project from RuneLite once they are ready to release theirs, in addition to allowing them collaborative control over the visual direction of my project. They declined outright.

    So, it appears that this is the end. Approximately 2000 of hours of work over two years. A huge outpouring of support from all of you. I could never have imagined the overwhelmingly positive response I've had to this project.

    I am beyond disappointed and frustrated with Jagex, and I am so very sorry that, after this long journey, I'm not able to share this project with you.

    What you've done to /u/RS_117 is truly a shame

    I was so looking forward to playing it, everyone was. One of the biggest pain points to OSRS for many is the visuals. How better to advertise your game than to allow someone to improve the existing graphical assets with shaders

    All models were not going to be changed in any way that would affect actual style.

    I get that one day eventually you'd like to do this yourselves, but until then let it be

    Instead of stifling innovation, let it flourish and compete with it

    Daily reminder of Jagex banning 3rd party clients HD features a day after 117’s HD plugin was supposed to release, that took him over 2000 hours to create (Day 1)

    It is beyond disrespectful from jagex to deny the release of RuneLite HD on the release day itself due to them "looking into" their own graphical upgrades.

    Also outright denying the use/release of RL HD until jagex releases their graphical upgrades.

    Dev 117 put thousands of hours in HD RuneLite and was vocal and public with his timeline; Jagex killed the project today when we should have all been playing it.

Let's make our voices heard and help Jagex to do what they do best: act on player feedback to make the best game for all of us. Remember- Jagex isn't EVIL for this, they have more going on than we know, we must appeal to the company's SENSE not stoop to name calling.

    If you want "consistency in the way that old-school looks" then make an HD setting so customizable and accessible that it makes all the other third-party HD options irrelevant, out of all the software devs, you're in the best position to do this.
    At this stage you've admitted that anything you're going to release won't be nearly as popular or as high-quality as whatever the community has already developed, and even if it was going to be that good, why the fuck would you leave the player-base with 0 options for the years that it will take to develop such a setting?
