Mahogany Homes is a quality update

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 06:11 AM PDT

Nothing flashy, an easily repeatable training method that switches things up from the monotonous regular grind of construction training. That and the fact that they got this update out quickly after polling, I feel like this is a pretty big success. I am a big fan of alternative training methods in the form of minigames, hope to see more small content updates like this.

    Good Job Jagex.

Let's talk about Fishing Trawler and the new Fishing Boss

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 08:47 AM PDT

Anybody that has obtained the Angler Outfit knows how absolutely terrible Fishing Trawler can be at times. If you've never had the misfortune of playing this minigame, let me break it down for you. You are helping Murphy (quite possibly the worst captain ever) catch fish by repairing his boat while on a fishing trip for 10 minutes. What are you doing for these 10 minutes? Most likely spam clicking the same tile until the activity bar is full and then afking for a few minutes until you need to increase your activity bar again. At the end you receive fish according to your Fishing level, you have a 1/8 chance of obtaining a piece of the Angler Outfit, and a small amount of Fishing xp. While 10 minutes for a 1/8 piece doesn't sound too bad, let's do some quick math. If you are perfectly on drop rate, you will receive an Angler piece every 8 games, or every 80 minutes. Multiply that by the 4 pieces and on drop rate it would take 320 minutes or 5 hours and 20 minutes. When talking to the people at Fishing Trawler it becomes clear that Fishing Trawler is not a good place to train and not an enjoyable minigame and only serves as a gate behind which the Angler outfit is locked.

Now, with the new proposal for a Wintertodt styled fishing boss it feels as if they a purposely ignoring Fishing Trawler. You mean to tell me that a giant sea monster that is literally the "guardian of the ocean" doesn't care that Murphy is exploiting his waters for personal gain and basically has a monopoly over charter fishing? Does this guardian of the ocean have no sympathy for his fellow fish friends who are being slaughtered by Murphy and his crew? The fact that Jagex is seemingly ignored all of the glaring issues with Fishing Trawler and instead creating a completely new Fishing minigame just proves that even they don't care about such a dead piece of content.

So what to do about it? Well, if you ask me, it makes PERFECT sense that this new Fishing boss be incorporated into the existing Fishing minigame. Would it not more sense for this sea monster to attack the Fishing Trawler (since we are kidnapping his fish friends) instead of players actively seeking out a guardian who is protecting his home and slaughtering it for personal gain? Imagine, no longer will we be having to endure a 10 minute long snooze fest of spam clicking and afking in order to obtain rewards. Instead, we can have an action packed fishing adventure where a sea monster suddenly appears and players must work together in order to stop the boat from sinking while also combating the sea monster. Players who wish to play defensively can simply repair the boat much like how Fishing Trawler is now. Players who wish to play offensively will be able to fight the sea monster in order to protect the boat. Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED Talk and tell Jagex to stop ignoring dead content in place of boss reskins.

tl;dr - We don't need two fishing based minigames, it makes perfect sense to work the new fishing boss into Fishing Trawler

Super impressed by the direction of OSRS lately. Thank you team

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 05:28 AM PDT

Mahogany homes is just such a nice idea. I love how you guys are going out of your way to adapt the existing game world to the way we all play. I've always wanted reasons to go around to different places instead of just being stuck on the same spot. Making exploration lead to XP rewards is such a great way to take the game.

IDK even what else to say. Farming contracts were a great idea and I'd love to see that expanded to other skills to lead to even more game world exploration. Sepulchre is great content, that totally makes sense for agility, being skill-based. And leagues being used to re-imagine the game based around the world that already exists is awesome.

Keep going in this direction, please. <3
