    Fellow RuneScapers,

    The toxic blowpipe has received a lot of attention lately, with the community letting J-Mods know of their feelings towards potential updates. To get a better understanding of what issues are at play here, I decided to take an in-depth look into why the blowpipe may be "broken" in the first place.

    To do so, I tested the functionality of the blowpipe with different items equipped in the helmet slot. Each of these items was chosen specifically based on differences in presumed air flow through them. Results to this testing are compiled in the table below.

    The takeaway here is that there was no loss of blowpipe function even when there was no source of air flow to power the weapon. That is the crux of the issue; the name blowpipe, and indeed the animation of the weapon in game, implies a player must force air through it to shoot darts. These results are directly contradictory to that! You can argue all you want about airflow levels through a helmet, coif, or bucket, but there really is no good explanation for a headless character effectively using this weapon.

    Thus, I propose the following hypothesis: the toxic blowpipe does not require a strong force of air to function. To test this further, I placed a loaded blowpipe (with scales and darts) in my inventory, and tested its capacity to function with sources of air power in game by "using" the blowpipe with each source. Results are summarized below.

    As you can see, neither of these sources of air was able to power the blowpipe. Taken together, these results suggest that "blowpipe" is potentially a misnomer, as the weapon appears to not rely on air power at all. There may be some other unknown mechanism providing power; perhaps simply the motion of lifting it one's face. Regardless, it is safe to say that the toxic blowpipe is not working as intended and will require future updates to fix this issue.

    TL;DR: Y'all blowin' a snake for no reason.
