Ask anything about Old School RuneScape here! They are designated for you to ask anything you like that is relevant to the game or this subreddit. Remain respectful to your fellow 'scapers when answering questions; there are stupid questions, but it does not mean you should not be respectful whilst answering them.

The competitive skilling community will NEVER be happy. This is why they aren't on the side of the players or the advancement of the game

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 11:45 AM PDT

You're competing in a contest. When suddenly, in the middle of the event, the rules change. You're in a triathlon and the people behind you get faster bikes. No competitive player is going to be happy about that.

This is why any meaningful change to skilling is a shitstorm. Individuals in the comp community might enjoy new content for being fun. But for the competitive community as a whole, other players are the enemy so any change is fought against.

More often than not, Jagex caters to this conservative mindset. Even updates with much higher requirements dare not come close to the current meta. This is why there are like 8 new fishing methods that give half the xp of just afking barbarian fishing. This includes sacred eels and infernal eels, with huge quest requirements, firecape, and not to mention exponentially higher level requirements.

Want to know why I don't respect the whole idea of "competitive skilling"? They REEE when things inevitably change because its "unfair". But how unfair is it that some are privileged enough to have no responsibilities or no job? How unfair is it to be delivered 3 lasagna plates a day while other people shop and cook? The very metric they measure "success" by, EHP, is mainly how much you can play.

Let me put it this way, I don't want the game to be balanced around the top 1% of the players. Just like I don't want the game to be balanced around the bottom 1% of noobs who want everything free and easy. I want a balance for the people who invest their time into earning 99s, but not their life into 200 mils.

The only way this small subsection of the community will be happy is if things never change. That's why I say, put them in their place. If new content is both higher requirement and more active, then it should probably be higher xp than the content below it. While factoring in how profitable it is of course. I hope to see content similar to rooftop agility that fills out training methods all the way to 99. Everybody knows 92 is halfway so why not add more variety for half the grind?

You ever hear somebody say "REEEE my FUN is being devalued"! No, they treat the game like work so don't design the game around them. It won't be any fun.
