Welcome to the daily /r/2007scape question thread!

You can ask anything about Old School RuneScape here. They are designated for you to ask anything you like that is relevant to the game or this subreddit. Remain respectful to your fellow 'scapers when answering questions; there are stupid questions, but it does not mean you should not be respectful whilst answering them.

Keep in mind that this is not a developer Q&A thread - questions for the game developers should be posted in the weekly developer Q&A posts.

For the love of god Jagex, can we please do something about goldfarmers that have been swarming raids and other bosses. There is a reason that endgame players are leaving the game.

    Posted: 27 Jun 2021 06:26 AM PDT

There is a reason that high level players have been leaving the game more and more as of late. Everything is filled with goldfarmers pumping more and more items into the game every day. Making PVM less profitable for the legitimate players. It's been months since the last proper goldfarmer wipe on the highscores. This should happen more often. It is such an effective way to deal with goldfarmers.

Accounts with 5k-14k raids kc go unnoticed for years by now. There is no excuse that goldfarmers can make it this far. Every single player knows what is going on. Cox is completely taken over by Egyptian goldfarmers. Page 1 is full of these "first generation goldfarmers". Typical for these accounts is the big Corp/Sara/Tob kc. They have been doing nothing but camping the bosses that were meta for gp at one point. Tob in a lesser aspect because these goldfarmers often have bad internet, thus are not able to camp tob as much because it is too punishing when you die.

We are now at a point where the top 25 cox only has 5 legitimate accounts in them. The other 20 accounts are shared, sometimes maxed, goldfarming accounts. Some of them have reached 10k+ kc which is absolutely bizarre. Gold has been disappearing from these accounts and they raid in minimum gear, yet they cannot find where this gold goes to. It's so obvious, they are selling it. Either by losing stakes on purpose to buyers or by trading it off to mules.

Yesterday someone made a post that showed the current rank 6 for chambers (a goldfarmer) staking someone using a dds versus a whip. A clear example of rwt. This post got taken down after 2 hours. A plain example of the issue getting ignored.

The same can be applied for TOB. The FFA world for TOB (world 416) is swarmed with gold farmers. People raid for 8-12hours+ every single day, most of the time they trade off gold they do not need the minute they get it. It's so sad to see the same goldfarmers for months if not years without any action taken against them.

Vorkath is better gp/h than raids nowadays. That is how badly raids 1 has been goldfarmed. The situation is now nearly as bad as Zalcano. The best known mass friends chats for chambers are filled with goldfarmers, with the occasional legitimate player in it.

It's been way too long since proper action has been taken against these now "high profiled" goldfarmers with thousands of kc.
When accounts are reaching such bizarre amounts of killcount (5-14k raids kc), it just shows how ignorant Jagex is towards this issue. The integrity of highscores is now completely gone for us pvmers.

Fossil Island is the best update OSRS ever received

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 03:56 PM PDT

Just wanted to express my appreciation for Fossil Island. It's such a quality update, there's an awesome variety of content, it all fits together really nicely in a small footprint. There's something for everyone, at all levels of the game and every game mode.

I want more updates like Fossil Island, that is all!

There are so many memes about OSRS being a terrible grind that nobody enjoys, and while I’m sure many do find themselves in an unhealthy cycle with the game, I thought I’d list a few things that make it a truly unmatched experience in my humble opinion.

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 07:01 PM PDT

    • Researching and planning. OSRS is a wiki diving game about developing game sense and expertise across numerous skills, items, builds, routes, click patterns, tick manipulation, and on to ridiculous depths. There's practically no upper limit on the level of detail and planning you can put into an account's progression plan. In a lot of ways, players spend more time thinking about the meta game than the gameplay itself. Personally, I've always loved games that allow me to feel like I'm playing against the developers, coming up with optimal strategies and loopholes and unintended mechanics.

    • Near fully persistent open world with long-form sandbox progression. To my knowledge, there just aren't other MMOs that do this to the same extent. From the moment you leave Tutorial Island, there's nothing forcing you to do anything at all. The freedom can actually be daunting to a new player. There are pros and cons to this approach but the lack of guard rails allows for a ton of emergent gameplay as players explore discover things for the first time. Something as simple as an unexpected item drop can completely change the progression path of an account.

    • Emergent complexity from interaction across many simple systems. Very little in OSRS is complex on its own, but all of the simple things run across one another to create a web of complexity. You can see this in the way different skills intersect with requirements or gear unlocks (though more pronounced on btw accounts). But it really shines in the combat, with gear swaps, spec attacks, prayers, spells, potions, inventory layouts, positioning, compounding together. In PVP you can add in ridiculous things like PID and 1-tick specs. But even just grinding slayer you'll find yourself juggling prayer flicks, spec attacks, potions, looting, alching, filling herb sack, etc. etc.

By no means an exhaustive list but these are some of the really unique elements that make OSRS stand out vs. other games.

Pubs in OSRS feel like they need a rework...

    Posted: 27 Jun 2021 09:13 AM PDT

I feel that pubs in OSRS could do with a rework, to make them a more integrated and cool part of the game. I used to love hanging about in pubs and bars back in the day, and honestly, I miss that feeling. Honestly, I would love it if Pubs on OSRS could have games tables or you could challenge someone else to a bar brawl. Or actually have the option to sit down at the bar stool at the bar and 'drink'.

Also look at the Jolly Boar Inn, it takes up a massive amount of space, right next to the wilderness! It could be used as a clan hub or a bounty-hunter hub (if they ever brought that back). But instead it's used for 1 npc for family crest and alfred grimhands barcrawl.

Honestly, imagine there being bar fights, a bounty-hunter board to see a list of active 'bounty-hunters' and being able to take out a bounty or list a bounty!

Imagine if different bars or pubs had a skill rank for runelink, draughts etc and in order to play there you had to earn your way through the bar/pub circuit! Grandmaster games being played in the Hefin Inn or intermediate games being played the Green Ghost.

Also, why isn't the Lumbridge pub involved Alfreds Barcrawl?!

TL;DR There are 40 pubs/bars/inns in OSRS and I feel they're dead/neglected content and could be so much more.

I would love suggestions tbh on how to 'Make Pubs Great Again'

There Should Be Consequences For Drunk Teleporting

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 10:41 PM PDT

I for one think it's irresponsible for adventures of Gielinor to be partaking in adult beverages, and then teleporting immediately afterwards.

There should be such consequences for inappropriate behavior.

I suggest if you are drunk teleporting there is a chance you do not end up leaving where you are, and take a bit of damage for even trying to partake in the magical transportation method.

Another action is that you wind up on the other side of the respective town or area you tried teleporting to, to indicate you missed your mark, as you obviously can't be drunk, and maintaining complete accuracy of your landing zone.

Thank you for hearing me out.

I went back to RS3 for a week and this is what happened...

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 08:25 PM PDT

I started this game in the summer of 2005. I went to visit some friends in Oklahoma and all they talked about was "Runescape". I was immediately sucked in and haven't looked back since. I got my first 99 in 2014 because though I love this game, I am terrible at it. I tried out OSRS when it first came out but was so upset that all the work I'd put into my character for the past 10 years was just wiped clean. So instead, I just quit. Fall 2019 I came back to OSRS, joined a clan, and went in. Got my second ever 99 in the covid lockdown, got full elite void, my first fire cape, learned how to tank GWD, got and kept my quest cape, and just really had a great time.

I have gotten to a point where the time between grinds takes so much time, and I wanted something new for a little bit. Soooooooo, I tried out RS3 for a week. This is my honest review of some things that jumped out at me.

The colors are too much. Everything's so bright and intense and in your face. Everything in combat flashes all the time. This is Runescape. This is not League of Legends. There's a reason this is Runescape and not League of Legends. Why the hell do I need sunglasses to play this game?? When you go into a swamp area the screen gets dark and dingy, and mist rolls in. When you walk into the desert you literally must turn the brightness down on your screen. Just because you can do something and just because it's cool, doesn't mean you should do it.

Graphics are amazing. I love the trees and buildings. Genuinely an incredible job on the details of everything. Look sooooo good. Just tone the damn bright colors down.

All the armors look alike. Everyone reskins themselves with stuff bought from Solomon's store. The visuals standing at the GE are trash. There is nothing visually appealing about upgrading from Bandos to Torva. Sure the sprites MIGHT have a slight color or shape difference, but once the armor is on in the over-saturated colors and brightness of everything, it all just looks the same. Personal aesthetics only come from MTX.

HOWEVER!!! The chat box at the GE isn't trash. It's actual players talking and having a good time. Not once in the whole week of playing did I see a single spam or scam bot at the GE. Truly amazing.

EOC is….EOC. I don't care for it, but it's come a long way since it was first introduced. It's not offensive, but it's not…interesting to me.

In OSRS, the construction skill has been advanced and improved upon to the n'th degree. It has remained completely untouched in RS3. It is the same skill it was 10 years ago, and as such it's the worst skill in the game. I think the advent of lodestones really crippled anything that could have been done in the home. It's so frustrating to not have a hub where all my teleports, clothing/armor storage, pets, and restores are located. A place I can call my own. My own custom house. My house…that I made with the construction skill…

I was kind of amazed that the way I set up my house in RS3, 10 years ago, is the same way I set up my house in OSRS…just from instinct. Just thought that was funny.

Archaeology is a lot of fun. Tying a skill into all the quest lore is super dope, and a great way to make the game feel like one coherent item. It feels well fleshed out, and immediately has a lot to explore. One of the things I really like about all the new skills in RS3 (and the updated mining and smithing rework) is there's something new at every level. There's something new to explore, something new to unlock. You're not going millions of xp, longing for a mediocre upgrade to the skill to take over just to break up the monotony (I'm looking at you OSRS mining)

Player owned farms is the best thing since sliced bread. The joy of taking care of your own animals without the smell. (I keep chickens irl) That is such a great thing to happen to the Farming skill, and I wish it were in OSRS.

Maaaaannnnnnnn….I miss Dungeoneering. YES! I KNOW! "So dumb…Shoulda been just a minigame" Shut up. No one asked you. This skill is a ton of fun. Super relaxing. You feel like you're actually doing something while training it. You're ACTIVELY INVOLVED. Absolutely love that. No chance to AFK train Dungeoneering, and I am 10000% here for it. It feels great to not have to rely on your RNG to get drops outside the raid to be able to do good in the raid. It's all about your skills and how you prep your invent. The Gauntlet is like a little sample taste they give you at Sams Club compared to the OG.

Invention…………OSRS is in desperate need of a weapon/armor upgrade skill. Warding was too bare-bones, Invention is too complex. Sweet Jesus I shouldn't need to watch 3 different hour-and-a-half long skill guides to understand what to do, how, and where to do it. HOWEVER! The longevity of OSRS DEPENDS on adding a new combination skill. Every month that goes by without a skill like invention, just further devalues every boss, raid, skill, and gathering skill. The dev's should simply state that they're making this skill and we only get to vote on what goes into it. It MUST happen. The game will die without it.

Thank you for reading my ravings.
