RS3 Player here with a message to the OSRS Jagex Team.

    Be careful.

You have a massively successful game on your hands with arguably the most loyal playerbase in MMO history. Do not betray their trust, especially when the game has been built upon the idea of giving power to the players.

EOC on release was a mess. It was rushed. I believe I speak for the OSRS community when I say these combat changes are being rushed, as well. There is quite literally nothing wrong with taking feedback and making changes. It's encouraged. Don't let this cause another mass exodus of players like we saw in 2012.

Most importantly, do not feel too proud or too stubborn to make adjustments later. If a nerf was too heavy (which most feel about the blowpipe, bulwark, etc.), don't be afraid to undo the changes to an extent. The community will not view that as weak or dumb. They would applaud that the company is taking player feedback into consideration.

RS3 is a phenomenal game now because player feedback was taken into account throughout the years. All of the initial EOC problems have been fixed for years, and it's because you let the players voice their opinions.

Learn from the mistakes of EOC. There is literally no need to rush anything. The community is here to work with you. Use them.

"Equipment Rebalancing Updated" has the worst upvote ratio of any post ever submitted by a J-Mod (600+ posts analyzed)

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 08:55 AM PST

I noticed that JagexAyiza's "Equipment Rebalancing Updated" post was getting heavily downvoted. This stood out to me because J-Mod posts are almost always upvoted, even if they're posting about an update that's less-than-popular. I wanted to compare the reception to the equipment rebalancing update to other unpopular updates.

I decided to write a simple tool to search for all posts ever made by known J-Mod accounts. It was able to find 665 posts. Then, I plotted the number of comments on each of these posts vs. the upvote ratio. (The upvote ratio is just the percentage of votes that are upvotes.) Here is what that plot looks like.

As you can see, "Equipment Rebalancing Updated" has the lowest upvote ratio of all time (28%), tied with "Third Party Client Update". The previous post "Equipment Rebalancing Changes" (44%) was also not well-received. The original "Equipment Rebalancing" post is at 62%, which is still very low (more than half of all posts are above 90%), and it also has by far the most comments of all time.

In the absence of an in-game poll, this data should at least give a quantifiable idea of the community opinion of the equipment rebalancing, and it's, well, it's not so great.

Balancing the Combat Triangle is a sad excuse for failed PvP Polls

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:26 AM PST

As the title states. I have seen many PvP related polls come around that typically fail pretty hard when polled by the community and are never implemented. So, if Jagex can't convince the community of PvP buffs and other complete trash then there is only one thing left to do. Nerf other items so that the already powerful PvP items become stronger.

OSRS PvP videos get views and generate memberships. How do you keep PvP "exciting and new" without adding new OP items every 3-6 months? Easy, just nerf the living hell out of PvP defensive gear.

But hey, this is the critical stuff that if unchecked will destroy the game. Not the bots, toxicity, PK rushers, gold traders, etc.

Doors of Dinh Contain the powers of Wintertodt, His shield should protect against freezing, this nerf goes against the lore.

If you missed it, jagex said on the q&a that they are changing the following in the equipment rebalancing blog tomorrow:

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 10:16 AM PST

    - Blessed d'hide won't be nerfed at all, so it stays the same as is

    - Din's bulwark range def will be +163 (from the previous +200) , and mage def -10 (from the previous -25).

These are good changes imo, mage defence is mostly calculated from magic level anyway.

The nightmare - An example how goldfarmers managed to kill a single boss in just 6 months.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:32 AM PST

The Nightmare was pitched as a medium level boss when it was announced. A Corporeal Beast-like boss monster with some mechanics. However, ever since it's release, goldfarmers have been camping this boss in every single world 24hours a day. Getting a free world often takes about 20+ world hops, because there is spanish speaking players in every single world in rag gear with thousands of KC. This is what the Inquisitor armour set graph looks like:

    https://imgur.com/a/L6UtoOi

It's been experiencing a downwards spiral ever since its release. The problem with the nightmare is the fact that as a medium level boss, it drops 5 BIS items for high level players. FIVE BIS items should never been dropped by a boss that has such a low enrty barrier as the Nightmare. These should be dropped by high-end PVM activities, much like how the mace counterpart is dropped by the most difficult activity ingame, TOB. Having one tier 75 weapon dropped by a high level boss with a high learning curve such as TOB, whereas the other is dropped by a medium level boss makes no sense to me. Making it extremely rare should not justify this.

We know that in the past this wasn't as big of a problem as it currently is. A medium level boss shouldn't drop high-end tiered weapons/armour in the first place. It barely has any requirements to be farmed. This is why those uniques have been crashing ever since. This is just an example how a boss has been ruined in such a short amount of time by gold farmers.

On another note: According to Sir Puggers video, there is now also accounts that look like bots that are farming this boss. Again, new bosses with a low entry barrier are too sensitive to botting and gold farming. This is how bosses are ruined within a short amount of time.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2z-c35BODj0 Timestamp around 5.12.

Examples like this is where the main integrity issues are currently. Bots and goldfarmers have been destroying the economy of certain items steadily for quite some time now. (TOB/NM/COX/Vorkath/Zulrah/GWD) This is what needs to be adressed. Goldfarming high-end bosses has been a growing problem for quite some time.
