The Lumbridge Furnace should have an anvil that allows you to smith Bronze items. New players are taught that anvils are by furnaces on Tutorial Island, and suddenly there just isn't one.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 10:19 AM PDT

Think back to when you started. Did you know how to trade with others? Where to trade with others? How much to pay when you did? What shops stocked what? For many new players, their first instinct is to make gear themselves, as taught on Tutorial Island. Lumbridge is the perfect place to do every step of the novice gameplay loop, except one thing is missing: the anvil they were taught would be there.

Mining and Smithing are very important for the early gameplay loop (it's directly taught and implied). Placing a "bronze anvil" by the Lumbridge furnace will give players a way to make their own bronze items from the ore they mined in the Lumbridge Swamp Mine, as well as help keep the general store stocked with useful bronze items. It will also "push them out of the nest" once they reach iron, if that's still something Jagex feels is necessary (I believe it is - exiting the novice gameplay loop as soon as it's learned is just as important as having a novice gameplay loop). Seeing a small stock of desirable player-made bronze items in the general store will also give new players a desire to earn. Players will want to purchase them, whether it be by making and selling their own lower-tier bronze items, or going out and killing monsters. Seeing the in-stock constantly ticking down could also motivate a sense of urgency.

New players have everything in Lumbridge:

    • A general store to sell to/buy from
    • Raw food sources
    • Tin and Copper ore
    • A furnace to smelt ore
    • Coin-dropping NPCs to kill

    But no anvil, which means:

    • Less visual progression (everyone's a noob with a wooden shield and bronze sword)
    • Slower experience melee progression
    • Progression is limited to stats rather than gear+stats, hence feeling of stagnation
    • Overall less likely to want to train melee combat
    • Less likely to spark an interest in food collection (therefore, cooking and fishing)
    • Less options for income (can't sell bronze items to the shop if you can't make them)
    • Less things to buy (less higher-tier Bronze items in the shop from other players)
    • Less likely to learn the value of gp (why care if if you can't obtain or spend it)
    • Slower learning of shop mechanics (earn less if they're already stocked, cheaper to buy if there's a higher stock)

There's a potential gameplay loop in Lumbridge that's getting stopped cold at only one single point, and I think those brakes can be pulled out with one little anvil.

    Fixing the Killerwatt problem

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 07:56 AM PDT

    Problems:

    • The current Killerwatt lair is inaccessible to players sensitive to strobe lights.
    • There is an empty spot in gear progression: high level insulated boots.

    Solution:

Rather than remake the same area without strobe and add a toggle, I propose adding a new Killerwatt area and a Killerwatt slayer boss. Boss would drop insulated boot upgrade.

    Badder but not Bigger

Killerwatts are a mid level slayer task. It would be a great opportunity to add a middle level task-only slayer boss. Introducing the Terrorwatt. Not only does it get style points for the matching name (Kilowatt --> Terawatt), but in the style of Kraken, it can only be killed on task. As the first mid-level slayer boss it should have no more than 2 simple mechanics, think rune dragons avoidable electricity attack, or EMP pulse that you need to run away from like when Sire changes into its final form.

    What's in it for me

I always found it strange that end game players with max gear still use a super cheap 1k item - insulated boots. There is a clear empty space in gear progression. And this is gear progression of the healthy kind, one that is highly niche and task specific, and would not powercreep the rest of the game.

The Terrorwatt should have a very rare drop which is an attachment to insulated boots. This is not a new concept, it would be exactly the same as boots of stone upgrading to brimstone boots.

    This item will

    • be in high demand as new BIS for rune dragon alts
    • be in low supply as it is task-only and only assigned by low lever slayer masters. While it would no doubt be farmed by high levels initially, it would be costly to do so in terms of points and low xp.
    • give med levels a taste of slayer bosses and and OSRS exclusive content.

Potential drop - Crossed Wire . Examine: "This doesn't look like anything to me. "

    Thematically appropriate:

Electricity is very uncommon in Gielinor. While the devs could just add electricity tangentially to a new quest and stick Killerwatts there as a new post-quest slayer task, I would like to explore the chance to repurpose an existing area.

In Creature of Frankenstrain the player makes a lightning rod to conduct electricity into the building. I propose that after full completion of the quest, we can attach 4 more lightning rods to the roof! They would be prompted that it would be dangerous to proceed without protection (insulated boots). If confirmed, the ground becomes electrified and Killerwatts spawn. To maintain the Ernest the Chicken requirement for killerwatts, require talking with the scientist by the current Killerwatt portal to get the idea.

Frankenstrain's castle is an underutilised area, apart from the occasional clue step. This is despite the location having its own teleport spell and being centrally located.

Would anyone else support this being added to the game if it was not too difficult to code?
